Adding Value
When the Kingdom of Bahrain Survey and Land Registration Bureau was looking for an idea to showcase an aspect their work, ICON was happy to oblige and the idea of an exclusive gift in form of a beautiful map of Bahrain was brought to reality.
The SLRB‘s Topographic Survey Directorate welcomed GIS experts from Germany to work with them in the directorate‘s offices. Official survey and GIS data was used as the basis for an individual design reflecting the beauty, sea and sand of Bahrain. Information and photography of the sights to see was collected by the TSD and layouted by Kartographie Huber‘s designers, where also icons telling little stories about the Kingdom of Bahrain where created. A patented folding map was printed on heavy material in Germany and air shipped to Bahrain.
Conceived only as a gift for a select few, the need of the public for a quality map of Bahrain quickly became apparent.
Private sector companies have helped ICON update the maps for 2010 from their first edition, including architects‘ plans of special buildings and new major real estate developments, such as the new islands of Diyar al Muharraq.
Some interesting projects with the maps are in evolution now, the most high profile one being a Kingdom of Bahrain visitor’s guidebook to be published by the Bahrain International Circuit in several hundred thousand copies, encouraging visitors to enjoy what‘s left and right of the roads going to Sakhir.
Shows that little things like a map can benefit a whole country and its guests.
